“Social media is called social media for a reason. It lends itself to sharing rather than horn tooting.”—Margaret Atwood
Whether it’s a tweet, a picture uploaded to Instagram or a Facebook post, social media is one of our favourite ways to connect and stay in touch with our growing community of current and former participants, teachers, and community stakeholders. It’s also one of the best ways to journal your exchange and stay in touch with those in your twin group (before, during and after your exchange!) Enhance your experience of a lifetime by connecting with our social media platforms! Better yet, tell a friend and spread the word!
Have photos, videos, stories, or quotes that you want to share with us?

Our Facebook community is our largest, and we’d love for you to join us! Everyone is welcome to share pics, comments and likes (these are subject to verification). Those who’ve liked the page can send a direct message should they have any questions (we often get questions from students this way).
*Tip: Many of our exchange groups create their own groups to stay in touch with each other before, during and after their exchange. Though these are separate from our official page, please tell us about your group page so that we can share your pics with the community!
Join the conversation on Twitter by following us @ymcaexchanges! We typically tweet about our program as well as various news and interesting info about Canada.
We typically use the following hashtags to identify ourselves and all related activities:
#YExplore= cool pictures of vistas and monuments, new places and landscapes.
#YConnect= pictures of friendship and team building activities.
#YEngage= pictures of community engagement day or Civic-related activities and topics.
#YExchanges= this is our general hash-tag for all of our Exchange activities.
Many of our students and staff enjoy using this photo-based micro blog, and we do our best to keep up with everything they post! If you have photos to share, be sure to tag us(@ymcaexchanges) and use the official hashtags so that we can share them with others!
Feel free to use filters on your YMCA photos.
Want to take the scenic route and hear about the experiences of our participants and staff, while learning about Canada along the way? Look no further than our blog, where we showcase all of the above. If you or someone in your group wants to share your experience by being a guest blogger with us, we’d love to hear from you! Contact us for more information.
Our newest social media platform brings together the many videos that our current and alumni exchange students and groups have made, with new videos being added all the time. Share your video with us and be featured on our channel!
